on the ignition recall how does changing the ring and key cover fix the problem?

Iirc gm didnt change part numbers but had changed the size a tiny bit.

Why does it seem like no one has a straight answer to that question? I wish a simple key cover and 2 key rings made sense to me. I have never had weight on my ignition key but still had this problem. Sorry for asking but are we safe with this easy fix? Had the recall fixed at dealer ship and things were ok but now they arent and airbag light is staying on.... ?
