What is your question?
My ignition is stuck in off position. Steering wheel is not locked. My husband was going to replace the ignition cylinder but is unable to because ignition won't switch to on position. How do we get the cylinder out?
What makes this problem better or worse?
Nothing. It wont do anything
How long has your 2004 Oldsmobile Alero had this problem?
Just happened suddenly yesterday

One if the locking tumblers inside the lock cylinder is not positioning itself correctly when the key is inserted.. Jarring the lock cylinder will usually allow the tumbler to drop into correct position.. Striking the key squarely with a rubber mallet sometimes will help - - tapping the lock cylinder with screwdriver tip while trying to turn key may work. Otherwise you’ll need *hands-on* assistance from qualified personnel - we can’t post the entire procedure for lock cylinder replacement here. Good luck!
IF the first attempt fails: Liberally spraying WD-40 into key slot to wash out lock cylinder may be necessary.. Then try jarring - wiggling key while turning - - now this actually does work quite well - but not ‘every‘ time.. IF replacing lock cylinder: ⚠️ Keep in mind security system needs correct key to allow engine startup.⚠️
Thank you for taking your time to respond. We greatly appreciate it. Have a goodnight
