Check engine light comes on and off for Mass air flow sensor... it has been changed out for over a month but does something need to be reset? The light comes on and off but doesn't stay on. And probably non related but the air went out around the same time. Do not have a trusted mechanic here what are some things they should be looking at if I take it in? What are some things I can do myself before taking it in (add refrigerant?)
What makes this problem better or worse?
When the temp outside is cooler
How long has your 2011 Nissan Sentra had this problem?
Engine light -few months, air problem - a month

For the MAF sensor, is there any drivablility issues? You or a mechanic would need to look at live data to analyze the air flow measured by the MAF to see if it's within spec. As for the A/C, I would have a professional service it. If there is a leak, it needs to be addressed. Adding refrigerant to a full system could cause damage to the compressor and affect the efficiency of the system. Could also be an electrical issue with the A/C compressor clutch or pressure sensor.
The check engine light is only a signal to the operator that a problem exists within one of the onboard operating systems .. A trouble code is merely a useful tool to aid in the diagnostic testing - that must follow code gathering. Most people think a trouble code points directly to the failed part - 'sometimes' that is true - however more often it is not. The air conditioner problem may very well be related to the check engine light - a/c may be automatically turned off by default - as well as other ‘non critical’ operating systems. A *complete* professional scan test will be required (ALL modules)
