If my truck starts sometimes what could be the issue, battery, alternator, etc?

I’ve been having issues with my 2012 Nissan Rouge starting, sometimes I can just bang on the cables of the battery and it will start and other times I have to jump it ; there are also times where it just starts up normally When I try to start my truck it will try to come on then, it will click off, all of the lights and everything else that was working when I got into the car and sometimes it takes a longer to jump and it will be hooked up to jumper cables then I’ll try to start and it will make the noise like it’s grinding trying to start then I stop trying not to cause anymore damage and wait longer or try to use my other jumper cables

What makes this problem better or worse?

It’s a sporadic thing

About three months now on and off but definitely on now
