My car got stuck in reverse and the shifter moves but car is still in reverse?

Broken/dislodged component(s) within the shifter mechanism circuit .. Vehicle presence is required for 'visual' inspection and 'hands-on' testing by qualified personnel to determine failure... Best guess would be a broken/dislodged shift cable - but as stated that is just a guess.... However if engine can still be started with shifter in park... Suspect internal transmission damage.... If failure were external to transmission the engine would not start - per externally mounted park/neutral safety switch... This is why it needs to be checked out hands-on.!
