need to change starter and can't get to the top bolt

Hello, The manual says you must remove the exhaust manifold heat shield on the 4x4 model with the 3.0l v6. However, I know I have had to remove the entire manifold before.

Drop the exhaust Y pipe down and try to borrow a 3/8 drive - Snap-On "impact swivel socket' and LONG extension .. That's the way I do it - however I have the vehicle hoisted which makes that job much easier .. It can a pretty tough one to get at for sure. Be SURE to use some PB Blaster on the Y pipe retaining fasteners and give it time to work - before trying to remove. Of course you also have the option of putting everything back together and having the local auto repair facility do this for you.
