What is your question?
This truck just died on the freeway. Diagnosed as a timing chain problem. If the timing chain is bad does that mean the valves are also damaged? My husband read somewhere the Nissan trucks had trouble with piston clearance..the valves may be damaged. I'm just trying to help my college kids save some money and headache. Thanks in advance.

The 4 cylinder engine has a timing chain .. The V/6 has a timing belt .. So we can answer the question more accurately .. Which engine is in the vehicle? .... There is a big difference between the two as fas as any internal engine damage the is concerned! .. Many folks get confused about the term 'interference engine' .... 'ALL' engines can be made to encounter internal interference if the right conditions are meet!
Hello, Yes, Nissan engines tend to be interference engines. The damage is normally limited to a few bent valves, but additional damage may be present. Inspection is required.
Thank you
it is a v6
I have 'personally' installed timing belt component kits on a small parking lot full of Nissan trucks with the 3.3L engines without nary a problem with internal engine damage what so ever! Now it should also be noted that these engines have an inherent problem with the distributors.. Got to be careful and thorough when diagnosing an engine stall - no start condition, especially on this engine! Good luck with it!
Thank you very much.
