Hood up or down is irrelevant .. Engine should start either way .. These vehicles have a history of failing crankshaft and camshaft position sensors - that is a very common problem. IF either sensor must be replaced - it is STRONGLY recommended to replace BOTH at same time - using the same brand name and quality replacement parts. Part numbers are identical for both sensors..
