I replace the tensioner and the belt and it wont start and i cant figure out why
How long has your 2001 Mitsubishi Montero had this problem?

when the belt broke,if driven even for a short distance the battery more than likely drained due to the alternator not maintaining the charge to the battery. Try to jump start it.
IF engine is CRANKING but will not START - check for crankshaft position sensor wiring damaged by belt.
Best I can remember - the ckp sensor wiring harness is located on passenger side - front of engine. IF engine is NOT *CRANKING* - see other answer.
