Air conditioning works well most of the time, but shuts off at high RPMs

what shuts off?the blower motor?or the a/c compressor?still get cold air a little when it shuts off?
Also, make sure your fan dial wire is new (doesn't really sound like your problem though). There is a factory defect where the wire gets stuck and you can't properly move the vent (wire is bent). This is repaired by removing the climate control knobs and I believe you might need to take out the radio to get access. You can get the wire online, but I got mine from a 2004+ model lancer.
Hey all, I took my car to a mechanic in August. The problem was the clutch in the AC compressor. The compressor itself is still good for now, but the clutch was overheating and sticking. Thanks for the input, everyone!
The fan keeps running at pretty much the same speed/power, but it only blows air at the "normal" temperature (same temp as the rest of the interior). Not cold at all, but definitely not heated either. Pretty much like turning on an electric fan at home - it just kind of moves the air around without actually changing the temperature.
the evaporator core may be freezing up due to a leak, then when it thaws out,it gets cold again, maybe 30 min.-2 hours.this can happen if it's cold for a while, then starts blowing warm or hot air.then you can turn it off for a while, until it thaws, then it will be cold again.
That sounds a lot like what my car is doing. AC runs really well until I run down the freeway for a while, then it stops working for the next 10 minutes or so. Do you have any suggestions on where there might be a leak - any common "problem areas" that you've seen? Thanks for the input!
you may want to get it checked out,or you can buy freon with uv dye in it.you would need to use a black light and glasses to see the dye/freon if leaking.i hope it's not the evaporator core, cause it's in a bad place.copy and paste the link and watch the video.
