why wouldn't it start?

TEST!!! for poor contact at battery or elsewhere going to starter. TEST the solenoid wire at the starter for FULL battery voltage , when the key is turned to CRANK. VERIFY that you have a good engine to body GROUND. VOLTMETER (in my opinion) is easier to use for this --a test light will not tell you true voltage-only lit or unlit.
