Why are all lights on dashboard flashing and nothing is working now

All of a sudden everything on dashboard starting flashing. There is a small red indicator that looks like a battery where clock is located. Car stalled and won't restart...dead battery?

IF this happened while drivin down highway .. Have alternator output tested! .. IF alternator has failed, result would be a dead battery! ..... Battery testing is part of alternator test IF performed by competent personnel.

Thank you for the speedy reply. It appears that all terminals on battery were very dirty/carroded. Cleaned them pretty good and car started like a charm and everything now seems to be working fine. Again, thank you for input and advise.
