This engine uses a multi componet distributor that is prone to give trouble without leaving codes!.. The normal failure is > runs great cold engine... The warmer the engine temperature gets the worse it runs.. No good way to test this distributor besides replacement!!.. New.. Not reman!! We see this quite often at the shop....
Im haven simular problems with my 99 mercury villager. If you end up figuring out the problem please share it. Thanks
I had the same problem with my 1999, I purchased a new distributor(cap included) on ebay for $75.00 with free shipping, installed it in 20 minutes and it solved the problem. I have driven it over 1000 miles,, No more problems!
I've found these distributors to be a very common problem, **for the symptoms that I have listed here** it's the most likely suspect!!!... Thanks for the reply & confirmation!!
Hello, I just stumbled upon this thread and it may help me is well. Thing is I am having the same EXACT problem with my 95 villager which as I'm sure you know is a 3.0 not the 3.3. Would you guess this is still the distributor? Any feedback would be greatly helpful. Same thing as no one can figure it out. Drives and runs great though until it gets warm then sputters and stalls out. Thanks
thanks you would think ford would know this maybe ill try that before i take it to nissan
The way every one of them I've replaced acted like this: as I looked at the engine when started cold and watched it warm up, the engine would visibility start to run rough and get worse as it got warmer... In fact, one would stop running completely and not restart until it cooled off a bit. NOW, this may not be your problem but I sure have seen my share of them that it WAS!.. Good luck with it!
