loose power at 50mph died on freeway towed home & eng. cranks but won't start

losing power after 50mph and had to accellrate slow to regain speed. died one nite on freeway ran battery down trying to start it. Towed home,charged battery and now it cranks but won't start.

What makes this problem better or worse?

it worked fine around my home(dirt roads and up & down hills)

3-4 weeks after replacing a front trans axle
