was only 1/2 quart low. only a slight clatter

Sounds like you may need an engine. Even a slight clatter is usually a very bad thing when it comes to oil pressure. A used engine may be an option. Do you know if you have the single or dual cam engine?
If the clatter is in the upper end, you might try replacing just the oil filter in case it has gotten plugged. Oil filters are relatively cheap and might be the fix for both issues!
Thank You. its worth a shot
You are welcome! An oil pressure check would be good to see if you have excessive main bearing wear, or pump issues. Although not recommended by the manufacturers, if the pressure is a little low, and money is an issue, you can change to an oil that is slightly thicker such as 5w30 up to 10w30. When you get the old filter off, see if their are shiny metal particles floating in the oil. Let us know how it turns out.
Yep. Even a couple months use is worth that price. Let me know if I can help in any other way.
single. upon further research i believe it may be a camshaft sychronizer. it has has the symptomatic chirping sound. Further i learned that mechanism turns the oil pump. i had to drive it 2 miles home. It only got slightly noisier than normal about a 2 blocks from home. I dont know if im gonna fix or junk it. the part sells for about 45-100$ thank you.
That is partially correct. The oil pump turns the sync. It will make noise but will not cause oil pressure to decrease. If the pump itself has a problem I suppose you could have both issues. I would need to hear the noise to tell you for sure. Typically pumps don't fail. Loss of oil pressure is the result of worn bearings. It is possible that the noise is the cam sync, and the oil sender has failed causing the light to come on, but again I would need to see the car to properly diagnosis what the problem is. GL
thank you. It does have 189,890 miles. Already been worth the 500$ paid. :-)
