Threads are stripped out, needs an insert installed in that cylinder!... By a 'mechanic'...!!!

Most likely, as you described, the threads are damaged, and an insert will be required for the repair.
I have done that and it still keeps working its way loose
Vehicle Owner; in that case, the insert was not properly installed, it has to be secured with Locktite when it is installed.
