My ground post sparks when I try to connect I put in a new starter

The battery *POSITIVE CABLE* is shorted to ground .. Most likely at the starter solenoid... Make sure it's NOT touching ANY metal part of the engine or chassis. (It is also possible the *fender mounted* starter solenoid has shorted internally) Does the starter try to engage when NEGETIVE cable is touched to the battery post?
