The drain plug should be on the bottom of the radiator on one of the sides. The thermostat housing is not that hard to replace. Make sure you bleed the system after your repair. Trapped air can cause over heating.
Can't blame 'anyone' for wanting to save a buck BUT... Something you should certainly consider before attempting to do the work is the strong possibility that a problem may occur and then you're left with no way to drive your vehicle in to a shop for repair and be forced to have it towed in anyway.. that's just mo-money!.. It's most likely drivable as is sits now, just fill up cooling system.. Maybe have this done at an auto repair shop instead, should not be that expensive! .. Just saying.
I was watching a YouTube and someone made a comment to be careful whir the bolts one might brake in half and he had to tow it to shop so they could take it out and tap new holes how is the Thermostat housing 2 hour job is it
