check and see if there is a set screw that has got loose holding the wiper arm to the shaft. are you sure you didn't leave the wipers on last time you drove it,then when you started it next time, the wiper was frozen to the windshield and tried to work but only the shaft turned and not the wiper arm?
Checked and its not the set screw loose. And no didn't leave wipers on last time used car don't think I let it defrost enough before tryed using wipers
ok.if the shaft that the wiper arm is attached to is moving back and forth, then the transmission is still working, maybe?or the bushing broke off and one side came off,if so the other side will follow soon,if that's what happened.look at the shaft real close on the passenger side, see if splines maybe stripped, even if you have to loosen the screw and take the arm off to check splines.see what you can find.i see it's 16 degrees in MA now,COLD! Temp is 37 here, and that's the low for tonight, next to Charlotte,NC.
Thanks was going to see if could fix myself to try to save money but to complicated going to have to have mechanic do it. Don't want to break it more plus with the weather I need wipers.
ok,yes i understand.just trying to save you some $$$.a long, long, long time ago,my wipers quit working on a 91 accord.i didn't have a clue on what to do,but i had to drive it every day.i kept RAINX on the windshield at all times.i let this go for a long time, and finally started looking at it.got me a Haynes Repair Manual and started reading, and looking at Pics.it was pretty simple.well the wiper transmission bushing had broken off.no parts house carried it.so,went to the Honda Dealer Parts Dept.i told the guy i needed that bushing.he said,we don't sell just the bushing, and that i would have to buy the wiper linkage rod and the bushing came with it!it was $20.00!! i said you mean i drove around for over a year for only a cost of 20 bucks???could not believe how simple it was!!!good luck wit it. i found this for you, hope it's for your vehicle also.>>>>>ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, PASSENGER CARS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR MAY HAVE BEEN PRODUCED WITHOUT GREASE BEING APPLIED TO THE OUTPUT SHAFT GEAR. Consequences: AFTER A PERIOD OF CONTINUOUS USE ON THE HIGH SPEED SETTING, LACK OF GREASE ON THE OUTPUT SHAFT GEAR MAY CAUSE THE GEAR TO DISTORT OR FRACTURE DURING OPERATION RESULTING IN A LOSS OF WIPER FUNCTION. Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE WIPER MOTOR FOR THE PRESENCE OF GREASE AND GREASE THE WIPER MOTOR GEARS IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 22, 2005.
