no that does not sound right at all. Do you have any codes on the computer? It could be bad o2 sensors, tune up issue, fuel issue multiple things it could be. Make sure find a shop like our with the proper software to diagnose you issue a lot better.

Also ,might want to check , but laws regarding converter warranties may help reduce costs ,AFTER properly diagnosing the cause for the failure!
