poss shift lock solenoid is bad but ck to make sure rear brake lights work 1st
I had that problem. Except every selection including park put my car in drive. It was the transmission itself actually that went bad and was causing erratic behavior. Here is what to do if you want to manually move the car: Make sure the car is on a flat surface. If it is stuck, engage the parking brake. Turn the car off. Depress the parking break. Take ahold of the top of the shift knob and then with your other hand pinch the silver part at the bottom of the knob with your thumb and pointer finger and twist it counter clock wise. It may be a bit stubborn. Once you have turned it and it has disengaged, pull up on the knob. This is usually very stubborn to do. After the knob has been removed, move the selector to neutral. Then proceed by opening the compartment in front of the gear selector. With all four fingers and your thumb, pull upwards on the wood cover. It should pop off. Once it does, lift it up and disconnect where the two wire clusters plug into the bottom of it. Remove the wood cover. Put your foot on the break and release the parking break. Your car is now in neutral and can be manually pushed/moved. If your car is not on an even surface, apply the brake, disengage the parking brake, and slowly coast the car.
