When I stick the key in to start it, it won'the turn, like it's locked

Grasp steering wheel and 'forcefully' move it back and forth while turning the key .. Unless the front wheels are 'straight' ahead, the steering wheel lock mechanism can apply pressure to the key cylinder making it 'very difficult' to turn and 'appear' to be locked!
