How to replace head gasket on my 2000 Mercedes C230 & will I have to replace any

What else should be checked or may also have to be replaced when replacing the head gasket on a 2000 Mercedes Benz C230 Kompressor? My car started to overheat because the overfill tank cap was warped/not closed/ or sealed on properly & I'm guessing the water was spilling out or just evaporating quickly & my car just shut off completely while I was driving. My car was pushed to the side of the road & I waited a good hour or more for it to cool down & added 5 -8oz. Bottles of water to the overfill tank. It stared up & I proceeded to drive it home. On the way it stopped 2 more times. I parked the car overnight. In the morning It started up. I turned it off & when I tried to start it again it wouln't start up at all. It was parked for a week.until I replaced it with a new overfill tank & new cap. I also checked all the hoses, checked the oil, & refilled the antifreeze & water, an hour later,same day, it showed on the temperature gauge it was getting hot & blow white smoke out tailpipe.

How long has your 2000 Mercedes-Benz C230 had this problem?
