Instrument cluster acting erratic after alternator changed on a 2004 Mazda Tribu

after changing he alternator, the tach, speedometer, temp. gauge started acting crazy. Battery light comes on and goes off. When you rev up engine in neutral lights get very bright but gauges go crazy. The lights on door locks and window controls go off and clicking noise is heard.
Is there some kind of computer or instrument cluster reset that should have been done?
