What if there no dtc codes to retrieve

What is your question?

The code reader could not find any trouble codes on my 2000 mazda protege. Rough idle, stalling, timing misses, accelerated jumps. Cel lights up. but codes do not appear.

What makes this problem better or worse?

Coming to a stop, engine starts to miss and idles roughly. Have to press the gas, rev engine to avoid stalling.
