I need a shifter cable. what years & models (aside from 1999 Protege, which is what I have) are compatible with my car?

I just googled it and several options popped up. You really don't have to go to the dealership for parts. Online is normally cheapest, just read reviews of the manufacturer or specific part.

What exactly happened to the shifter cable? It may be repairable.
