It has what looks like an extension cord hooked up to a plug that it's connected to the engine Block i was told it was there to warm up the oil if you live in a cold climate please help

It's called an engine block heater, replacing the expansion plug.
Is there any maintenance that is required for that
Just to make sure it doesn't develop a leak and that it is working so if you need it.
