Hood release won't pop the hood. Pulling on the cable from under the steering column won't pop the hood. Hood is springy when pressed down, not frozen.
What's the best way to manually pop the latch?
First pull hood release then go bump front of hood with hand to see if hood will pop up.. IF no luck.. Have helper pull hood release while you push down on front of hood.. Then pull up on hood to see if it has released... Be sure to lubricate hood latch while hood is up!
I will give this another shot. First time around didn't do anything, but I'll try really pushing and then pulling while the release is out. I'll let you know!
*If the release handle will not move*.. Get a helper (or you) to push down on the front-center of hood just above the hood latch while 'someone' pulls on the release handle... do this randomly, maybe let off on release handle befor lifting up on hood... IF all else fails.. Will have to trip the latch with a screwdriver or such.. Ford Ranger is the same truck.. If anybody else around has one.. Raise hood and look at that one to see what you will have to do on yours... Lastly.. If the truck is drivable, seek hands-on help from repair shop.. Good luck!

That should work unless the release cable is broken.
Any way to tell if it's broken when I pull on it? It doesn't seem to budge when I'm pulling from inside the cab.
