Overheated and then just cut out on me

It began overheating so had it flushed, replaced thermostat, then still too hot so installed a new radiator. It was doing ok but then after a 6min.drive it shot up again to overheat. I nursed it back to cool off with fluids and engine open.. When gage said halfway I attempted to make it back home. After only 3mi.it began a ticking noise. I knew it was unhappy but surged on to try and make it while it was on HIGHEST temp but no check engine. I knew I shouldn't drive and them it just quit for me! I'm so upset. It's been so good of a truck. Is it history?

What makes this problem better or worse?

Not driving it. Short trips ..no idling
