my slave cylinder went out and i was wondering if i need to drop the tranny in order to get to it or is it located on the outside

Yes the transmission will need to be removed.
YES AND IT WOULD BE EASIER WITH A LIFT FOR THE TRUCK. NOT REALLY EASY FOR A DIY
Yes, you have to drop the transmission to replace your internal clutch slave.
