Speedometer quits after half hour of continuous running on highway.

What is your question?

When running at 60 t0 65 MPH the Speedometer Needle will start to go down eventually ending up at 0 MPH. I am able to monitor the speed by watching the Tachometer. Does anyone know why this is happening? The local dealer does not believe that this is happening as it does not happen when the truck is taken to them for service

Its not really about believing it, its having an effective way to get it to happen and allow the testing to be performed. When the speedometer acts up, does the odometer keep counting, and appear to be accurate? Can you still use the cruise while the speedometer is dead? Once it acts up does cycling the key off, and then back on get it to work again? Did they try and pull codes from all of the modules? Would it be possible to arrange for them to look at it right away when the speedometer quits the next time? If so once it acts up, don't shut it off.

Odometer keeps running The truck does not have cruise control (wish I did for long trips) Turning the truck off and back on does not fix the problem. I do not know if the dealership tried to pull codes from all of the modules. As the truck is off warranty and the dealership did not fix the problem during the warranty period I do not want to pay for any repairs. Mazda (through the dealership) are not accepting any responsibility for the problem. Issues of this kind could lead to expensive repairs if the instrument panel requires repairs. I failed to mention that the problem occurs on hot days in the summer (over 80 Deg F).

"As the truck is off warranty and the dealership did not fix the problem during the warranty period I do not want to pay for any repairs." On one hand understandable, but at the same time that ties up our hands as far as trying to help is concerned. "Mazda (through the dealership) are not accepting any responsibility for the problem. Issues of this kind could lead to expensive repairs if the instrument panel requires repairs. I failed to mention that the problem occurs on hot days in the summer (over 80 Deg F)." When problems are random in nature it makes troubleshooting them much more difficult and while most consumers don't consider this to be their problem, techs don't get paid to put in the kind of time that would be required to patiently wait for the symptom like this to occur. As a tech who used to work in a dealership, I have hundreds (if not thousands) of unpaid labor hours through the years solving these kinds of problems. Now with my own shop I even have to pay for and maintain the factory scan tool for manufacturers like Mazda, and pay additional costs that my "competition doesn't" just to have access to the necessary service information and software that would enable me to deal with this for you. A top independent shop/tech could solve this for you, but if they can't run a viable business trying to and manage to earn a living, well....
