I was at an auto shop and they told me i need a new timing chain and that the cost of labor and parts is going to be $2,200.. is this a fair price?

Seems fair if all is replaced, be wary that only guides usually break and cause noise . The labor would be the same but the parts would be alot cheaper. If you have it done require the old parts any reputable shop would agree to this.
like answer #1 stated.there is NO required service on the chains, unless it's rattling or making a noise, none.if it's not,it don't need to be done.
