have only had it for 3 mos, put 3,000 miles on it and had trani serviced and checked and said i should have no problems and all i would need is oil change. mechanic today said oil and water are fine. each time i start vehicle white smoke comes out of exhaust, after running for awhile it subsides. has only happened twice, once this am, not after i filled it w gas, and then 15 minutes later after a 5 min pit stop it did it again? help...throwing no codes?

Valve steam seal leaking a bit of oil into the cylinders while vehicle is parked is most likely reason for smoke on first start up .. Is it using oil, as much as 1 qt per 1,000 miles?
I have always been under the impression that "white smoke" is coolant leaking into a cylinder(s), typically from a bad head gasket. This also can show up as "bubbling" in the neck of the radiator when the cap is removed and the engine is idling. Burning oil is a darker smoke, not white. You might have a very fine (small) leak that closes up when the engine comes up to operating temperature, but opens when the block cools down, allowing a small amount of coolant into the cylinders. This is my opinion, having the exact problem with a Mazda MPV a number of years ago. But in my case, the lead was severe.
no, oil seems to be clean...should i go get a oil change and have him look for a leak? today it is doing it every time i start vehicle, white smoke coming out, smells like oil, could it be muffler? i dont know if i should take it to oil lube shop today and change oil n look for leak or if i should put in another european shop. will i damage it by continuing driving, hoping it is not heads or seals, but trani guy did overhaul work $1500.00 at 214,k miles, n said only thing i would need to do is oil change at 3k miles, i'm at that now. but not throwing any codes. help, need to get it somewhere today.

no, not loosing any coolant or oil before oil change. on friday took to shop, did oil change, added Bardahl oil additive 2117 and seemed to be fine heard slight ticking drove 20 mls home. On sat pm drove smoke again on start up, then every time a drive n stop n start again smoke, then took back to oil shop, throwing a code, knock sensor code from ignition. drove home, this a.m more smoke, can't find a shop that can take off manifold, fix that problem and check to see if valve steam seals leaking. This a.m not running good, drove 28 miles drop off school n back to oil shop, its fine while idling, took to another mechanic, (smoked again) he put two quarts of oil in it, its now burning oil. No mechanics in Clearlake that work on toyota motors, i have to take it to a shop that can both diagnose and fix it. Is it most likely my seals leaking into cylinders and the knock sensor? or something else? originallly on pre inspeection prior to purchase mechanic wrote trani good, smog passed, and possible oil leaks down road could be valve cover gasget or power ster or pump hose, and replaced wipers, batt test failed, replaced and (vap. monitor not ready? ) not sure what that means. charged me $429.00 n fixed all and said i may have some oil leaks down road, to do oil change at 3k miles, no i don't know if i should take back to him in Rohnert park (1 hr away) or local guy who works on seals european car dealer in lakeport? help
