No need for reprogramming anything! .. Anytime battery power is lost, it'll take approximately 20 minutes of engine operation for the computer to 're-learn' idle strategy... Which will take place on its own.

That's correct .. Mechanic is mistaken OR you misunderstood .. Battery or starter replacement has NO effect on actual programing! .. Only time any type of programming is necessary is if the computer itself is going to be replaced or an update has been issued by the manufacturer to correct an existing problem. What kind of problem(s) are you having with the vehicle?
