Pretty sure the exhaust is leaking near the manifold. Just returned from a 550 mile trip and the exhaust got obnoxiously loud about 100 miles from home. Took it for an expection a month ago and it passed no problem. Called shop to have the oil changed and the exhaust diagnosed and the owner warned that the cost could be 600-800 dollars depending on the parts and location of the leak. I'm not getting any error message on the dash either. Anybody have an experience with a similar issue?

I guess it could be the EGR Valve tube.. Can't recal if it's on the rear bank exhaust manifold or not... Just another possibility!
Yup, you either have a crack in the rear exhaust manifold or the manifold gasket needs replaced. Normally you will not get a check engine light for this......you just start to sound like you are driving a Harley Davidson.
I figured my mechanic was playing it straight but knowledge is power. Thanks for the good council! Kato
Could it really get that loud though?
some of them get pretty loud.. it's hard to say, just another possible cause.. it could also be the flex coupler! (???????) somewhere here between both of us.. it's covered I'll bet!!
Ahh.....the flex-pipe......definitely a possibility!
Oh yeah,, these smoke machines... Find an exhaust leak in a heart beat!!! Put smoke in 02 sensor port or in T- Pipe... I have put a little dab of trans fluid in intake or brake booster vac hose to make exhaust smoke and found a leak that way!!.. Kinda old school, but works!
