What is your question?
I did not know that my 2016 Sportage had a recall. ECU upgrade, to be specific. The word "upgrade" makes it sound like an option, not a necessary and legitimate "recall". Here is the scenario that unexpectedly happened to me today: When I went in to get the oil changed, I was told (after the fact) that they took care of the recall. I was stunned after hearing the word "recall" and the rest was fuzzy...but now that I have had time to process the information, the matter had to do with an ECU upgrade. I am nervous that something was unnecessarily done to my car. Never got a letter! Could I be in danger if the ECU upgrade was not necessary on my car? Could I be in any danger if I am driving on the highway and the ECU malfunctions? I am also angry that I was not informed of the recall or the upgrade at the time of service. Can someone please let me know if I should be concerned with the safety of my car now? I might sound ignorant, but I was really stunned by how this all happened today.

Assuming this was done at Kia dealership - It is more likely that a control module re-flash was performed and was simply described as an upgrade. It also likely this was a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) as opposed to an actual recall. You will need to discuss this further with the personnel that performed the services.
You should have gotten paperwork from dealer at the time with related information.
