Would a bad exhaust leak by the manifold cause a piston to melt? R burn?

Difficult to determine without *hands-on* visual inspection. More likely caused by lean fuel mixture on that cylinder - possibility an ignition timing problem resulting in detonation ~ preignition ~ spark knock. Leaking exhaust manifold itself - not likely.
