What is your question?
Sorento is 4wd model, with 59K miles. Tires were changed about 4 years ago. Only recently noticed the humming when I go over 10 mph, and the pitch increases (higher) as I accellerate, and decreases (lower) as I slow down. The noise is separate and apart from the engine as it shifts up/down normally. Also steers normally, and don't feel it pulling left/right. Any ideas before I go to a shop?

4 years on the same tires? How many miles and how often rotated? Noise starting at 10MPH is generally (to me) a little slow for a wheel bearing noise , but besides that and cupped or feathered tires , what else on the vehicle would be consistent with road speed not engine speed or gear? Have the tires checked carefully . Do you have any vibration(s)? Both the tire issue(visually) and the wheel bearing noise (running) can be verified with the vehicle on a lift (best after the tech test drives it with you , to VERIFY the noise you are hearing (not all the others the tech may hear and think is the one you want repaired and then find out his ears heard a different noise). Hope this rant helps......
Your reply was certainly a lot more helpful than answer No. 1 - "Hoses, could it be hoses?" I was thinking wheel bearings as well, and it certainly sounds like a tire noise (to me). Thanks, and I appreciate your time and assistance. This website is a great resource of us "non-mechanics." I'll take to a tire shop to start with, and ask the Tech to drive it with me - outstanding idea!
BEST way to make sure they fix what you hear , not what they hear! IF they hear something else , the test drive is also one of the best times to explain to the customer (in this case you) what else THEY hear and demonstrate/explain the differences and why it may also need other service. Good luck , thanks for the response.
