What does it mean when my parking brake symbol flashes as I go around a curve?

About a week ago my parking brake warning started sounding and signaling when I am in a curve (at first only right turns). I live in a mountainous area and curves are numerous. I have pulled the release handle and checked the peddle to be sure it is not engaged. Now I am noticing poor gas mileage as well.
