Is the knock sensor a common problem and where is it located on the motor? Will it cause a cyl. Misfire?

I'm going to start with plugs and wires. It runs rough sometimes. At acceleration it will run rough, adjust the pedal a little bit and it will smooth out. It's friends car. When he gets here, I will post the codes. I know it was a knock sensor and a misfire code.

That will help us give a more informative answer... Misfire is 'likely' the reason FOR the knock sensor code... Knock sensor detects engine roughness or vibrations as well as spark knock..... {Sensors detect problems and tell the computer, check engine light comes on to inform the driver, codes are a useful diagnostic tool to help find the cause of such problems.. 'Sometimes' it is the sensor itself that has failed .. but not always!

Pushrod, here are the codes I pulled of last week. code 325 knock sensor 1 circ bank 1 303 misfire cyl. 3 128 thermostat below temp I'm going to replace plugs and wires....

Must be the V/6 .. That a good place to start for sure! .. After install .. Disconnect battery NEGATIVE cable for 5 minutes to clear codes, then test drive TWO trips, turning engine OFF between trips, to see if any codes return... Replace plug wires ONE AT A TIME to prevent 'crossed' firing order .. Good luck!

4 cyl. I replaced the plugs and wires. plugs definitely needed replacing. I cleared the codes with a handset. I found a stripped mounting hole on a coil pack. I think I will heli coil that. thank you for taking the time to chat with me.

Ok, *TWO coils and TWO plug wires*, does it run ok now? .. Coil mounting bolt not critical to check operation but eventually needs to be fixed.

Only replaced the 2 wires and plugs. coils will be next. he just text me saying it is running better than before. I told him to get on the freeway and run it and that should spit out a code if there's a problem.
