Hello, It may be, but I'm not getting enough information to accurately connect the dots. When you shift into low gear, the engine should increase in speed, so what did it do that made you pull over?
Try to turn engine manually .... Will vehicle still roll - if in gear - park brake off?
yes it will. It's a little tough to get it rolling but it will roll. We tried push starting it and when we pop the clutch it's not kicking back at all. Don't feel anything at all when it's popped.
From posted info and considering the 'no crank' condition - Suspect clutch 'friction disc' has exploded inside bell housing .. Piece(s) of friction material now lodged between starter drive gear and flywheel .. Using applicable tools - can try manually turning engine counter clockwise then try to turn clockwise to see if engine turns ok... In ANY event - it seems it's going to need some major repair before being road worthy again ... Hope I'm wrong! .. Good luck with it!
I downshifted to allow someone to turn in front of me, once I did it just revved up. It was in gear but the tires were not responding. it was still rolling at about 10 mph, I pulled over, took stick out of gear put it back in and same thing, stick wasn't being kicked out of gear, it was not grinding... so I shut it off. Hasn't started since.
Ok, how about the transfer case, have you tried for a response from shifting from hi to low? It really is odd that the engine starter would click (assuming the battery is not toast) but not turn the engine over, especially with the clutch bad. Normally, a bad clutch lets the engine run in all gears unimpeded. You may just have a combination of faults that just so happened to sync up. While that is possible, I don't want to speak to it's likelihood. You should find some clues in the inspection cover for the transmission bell housing. Start by having the battery checked/charged/replaced depending on condition, and check the status of your battery and starter cables. Also, look at the starter to see if it is still installed securely. You should also be paying attention to the transfer case-transmission coupler. They break. There will be some disassembly involved to hunt down the issue at home or at a shop, and ultimately you will likely find physical damage to some component. The starter issue could be solved before or after, but I would diagnose it first.
Thanks for your replies, I really appreciate it and it gives me a great place to start my search :)
