What is your question?
I am looking at buying a 98 TJ. I was able to rotate the front drive shaft clockwise and counter clockwise slightly when it was in 2 wheel drive. I don't know if this is normal or if I should steer away from this jeep. Thanks
How long has your 1998 Jeep Wrangler had this problem?
I'm looking to purchase this vehicle
You’re welcome..
I think you misunderstood all four wheels on the ground, the transfer case in two wheel drive and I can move the front driveshaft only slightly not a complete rotation. I didn't know if this would show abnormal wear to the ring and pinion gears. thanks
Oh, I understood just fine.. The driveshaft is connected to the differential - differential will not turn with vehicles on the ground.. Take vehicle to local auto repair facility - have it hoisted and inspected. While it is in the air - you can turn the driveshaft as much as you want to. ALL differentials (ring gear and pinion) have *backlash* that’s what you’re feeling when rotating the shaft. Additionally - It is just good practice to have *hands-on* pre-purchase inspection by qualified personnel performed on any vehicle.. Good luck!
Thanks appreciate it
