Yes it un-screws but without using the special spanner wrench to loosen, you 'might' damage the chrome finish on the retainer nut by using alternative tool(s).... Can always choose another style car wash... I betcha the owners manual has some useful information on this subject .. There's a plethora of extremely useful info in that book!
