Do motor mounts usually fail on the 2010 Jeep Patriot?

Our 4 x 4 2.4L 2010 Jeep Patriot idles rough … only in drive, not in neutral or reverse. The dealer says the passenger side motor mount has failed. Is this a persistent problem on this model?
What makes this problem better or worse?
Putting the transmission in neutral makes the idle smooth.
How long has your 2010 Jeep Patriot had this problem?

Not an inherent problem that I'm aware of - some contributing factors are - driving habits - engine bay fluids contamination - just a failed part.
