Grinding sound feels like your dragging something. not all the time

What is your question?

While driving the car will start to grind it feels like something is dragging? When I look underneath everything is fine. It is so loud I had it towed to the garage twice and when they stared it up nothing happens. It;s not all the time?

What makes this problem better or worse?
