Don't know your skill level but you can remove the drivers door jam (ajar) switch and do some testing there to figure what needs to be done .. and see the wire colors that will be accessible by pulling off the drivers side 'kick panel' later to wire up the lights, if done right that should work for what you're wanting to do! .. Otherwise you'll need a schematic to find the wires going to the dome light itself... Good luck.
They are switching the ground. On the drivers side, it's one of the yellow wires. On the passengers side, it's the black wire. You will need a volt meter or test light to hound it out. Hope this is helpful for someone else.
Remove the kick panels on both sides. There is a black connector on both with black and yellow wires in them. They are short and hard to work with. I cut the ones I needed and used crimp butt splices to make the connections. Take your time with a couple beer breaks and it will work for you. Need to make the connections I described earlier on both sides otherwise it will only work on the side connected to and override wont work. Good luck.
I am putting L.E.D. tape light under the dash on both sides. Would like it to come on/off with doors and override.

Where did you gain access to the wire at?
