I put new air filter in and a week later the back side is saturated with oil from the tubes.

1990 - probably has several miles on the vehicle - suspect worn piston rings / cylinder walls resulting in *blow-by* ... Google > blow-by for more detailed information.

Also make sure the PCV valve system is functional.

Auto zone parts store tells me there is no PCV valve on this unit. A 90 cherokee 4.0 6.
