the engine oil level is not monitored when the engine is running and/or the vehicle is in motion. The engine oil should be checked frequently and topped up as required using the correct grade for the engine. CAUTION "Check the engine oil weekly". If any significant or sudden drop in oil level is noted, seek qualified assistance. Prior to checking the oil level make sure that the vehicle is on level ground. ALL EXCEPT 2.0 LITRE PETROL ENGINE: The engine oil has reached working temperature (oil is hot). The engine has been switched off for 10 minutes, as the system will not give an accurate reading until the oil level has stabilised. The oil level can then be checked as follows: Switch on the ignition (do not start the engine). Make sure that Park (P) is selected. Select the Service menu using the instrument panel menu control (see LUBRICANTS AND FLUIDS). Select Oil level display from the Service menu. The current oil level status and topping-up advice is displayed in the instrument panel, top-up as instructed.
Periodically checking under the hood is the owners responsibility!
cant check under the hood you have to sit inside the car you cant even add oil bright boy
my question was how often should the oil be changed i know to check the oil what im not sure of is how long between changes it used to be be every 3000 then they went to 5000 then 10000 with synthetic now ive been told every 15000 i know you should change it but with synthetic at 8dlrs a quart the whole deal with synthetic was you could go much longer between changes
go 3000 or 5000 or 10000 or 15000,but checking the oil level, once a week or even every two weeks or whenever you fill it up,just check it is the main thing. if you have been TOLD every 15000 to change the oil, don't ASSUME it's still going to be full or stay full for that duration, cause it ain't gonna be as you have found out. you have probably a $100,000 car and don't even have to get out of the car to check the oil level(it's all electronically done from inside the car)! even if you had the oil changed at 5000 miles,a less than $100.00 oil change would not break you and keep your engine running a very long time. I have an 18 year old truck and run full synthetic oil in it with almost 10 TIMES the miles on it verses your mileage and I check it regularly and add oil as needed.
