I had a similar problem with my 2001 S-Type. when parking either 45 or 90 degrees to the kerb if I touched the kerb with a tyre, the trans would stay locked in park. My first thought was )((A** and my second more civilised;, The problem was due to Diff wind up like driving a 4x4 on hard ground preventing them spinning. Solution was to jack up a rear wheel to take the tension off. Lever then operates perfectly.
Well,it almost been 1 year,so maybe they will post the fix to maybe help others with the same or similar problem.
Seems to work fine....step on the brake and the taillights come on.
BUT,that's not all the switch is for>>>>Stoplight switch directs current to the stop lights, cruise control, and shift interlock to turn them on or off When not replaced, stop lights will run continually or not function, potentially causing premature bulb failure, safety issues and/or the (transmission will not shift out of park)!!! it's $16.00 Part Number: SW8240
Will try...short money. The light does not come on on the dash (P) to say I am in park. Once in awhile I use to let the car idle and it would appear. Then I could shift it.
