we have checked all steering components under the front as well as the bushings in the back. Other than the bushings being worn, everything else was tight.
What makes this problem better or worse?

If you find components that are worn, replace them. Beyond that, check to ensure the shock absorbers are functioning as designed. Also, have a four wheel alignment performed to inspect all alignment angles - and that the thrust angle from the properly aligned rear wheels to the front wheels is spot on.
